Skyscraping granite, a cool breeze, smell of sequoia forests, tears & sentimental vows, and the prettiest pastel colors. Yosemite is my Disneyland. It’s one of my favorite places on earth and makes me feel so small every time I’m there. Yet it also makes me feel part of the creation — full of value and just as beautiful.
When Mariah + Gabe asked me to photograph their intimate wedding in Yosemite valley, I could’ve cried I was so excited. The whole day was filled with sentimental moments, frolicking in fields, and spending time with their closest friends and family.
The day started at their VRBO inside the National Park, then we caravanned into the valley to take photos and share their first look. Gabe’s reaction when he saw her was the cutest thing!
Their ceremony was my favorite part of the day. I cried like 4x. The ceremony began with singing worship together. It was beautiful to witness. God makes it clear in the Bible that marriage is supposed to be the most incredible sign of God’s love, and getting to watch two people declare their love and commitment to each other in this way was so moving. The energy during their whole ceremony was electric — from the worship, to the vows, to the kiss.
Standing on Cathedral beach under the base of El Capitan, we were reminded how big God really is. The fact He created THAT majesty and loves us?! I was awestruck. I’m sure the bride and groom felt that same way. It’s the perfect place to be, and certainly a great place to commit your life to your lover.
After their ceremony, people candidly shared food, toasts, and well wishes for the couple, before saying goodbye to them. We headed out to some of my favorite spots inside the valley for their couples photos. Sadly, because of the smoke from the Tahoe fires, we couldn’t go up to Taft or Glacier Point. But luckily, Yosemite has so much more to offer that we didn’t feel gypped ;).
At the end of Mariah + Gabe’s and wedding day, we caught a beautiful blue hour at one of the best views of Yosemite valley. Frolicking and taking in the immense beauty that surrounded us.
