OKAY FIRST OF ALLLLLLL, aren’t they basically Barbie and Ken?!?! Talk about models!! Alonna + Oli are the cutest and sweetest couple. How do I get so lucky to have couples as kind and fun as them?!
They first met at the gym that Oli was working at when Alonna was working out there every day. Classic boy meets girl, but it took them quite a while to muster up the courage to as the other out! They now have two gorgeous huskies together and enjoy being active together, from going to the beach, skiing, and adventuring.
They are currently planning their tropical Kauai, Hawaii wedding. Oli is originally from a tiny island in Hawaii, so it only makes sense that they tie the knot in paradise!
When Alonna said she wanted their engagement pictures in the sand dunes, I couldn’t be more excited! I ADORE the sand dunes, and I love it when couples want something totally different from their wedding vibe. I mean, tropical vs desert… couldn’t get more different! It’s so fun to have photos from unique locations, and the sand dunes are perfect for it!
From wind-swept hair, to playing in the sand, perfect golden sunsets, and hiking up steep dunes (my calves are still burning), the dunes in Glamis are amazing for adventurous engagement photos.
We arrived a couple hours before sunset and basically had a ton of fun the whole evening until it was too dark to keep going.
Alonna and Oli have a contagious kind of love. They’re so sweet to each other, always laughing together, and constantly making the other person feel special. You could just see it! They’re soooo meant to be and I’m honored to witness their love.
Pick outfits that catch the wind! It’s super windy out there, which makes for EPIC photos, so wear clothes that will really show off that movement.
Same with hair! Opt for a down and loose hairstyle.
Photographers… make sure you have protective equipment on your gear and make sure your camera is weather-sealed. Cuz we’re talking sand everyyyyywhere.
Get there a couple hours before sunset cuz the mountains make the sun set early.
Find a dune that doesn’t have as many footprints or tire tracks in the background!
Watch out for ATVs and dirt bikes. Walk on the ridges because people will fly over the top and hit you on the way down. Be visible.
Shoot on weekdays since it’s crowded with tourists on the weekends.
What to bring: a towel. Since the bathrooms are gross and you won’t want to hike back to the car, bring your outfit changes and a blanket so you can change on the dunes!
Shoot in the winter/early spring while it’s cool! November – March
