When May and Patrick planned their destination wedding at The Barns at Cooper Molera in Monterey, California, they knew they wanted it to be a celebration full of joy, personal touches, and unforgettable memories. Coming all the way from their home in New York City, this incredible couple created a wedding weekend that perfectly blended natural elegance with fun, laid-back vibes.
May and Patrick’s guests were treated to the full Monterey experience in the days leading up to the wedding. The cool, sunny fall weather was perfect for exploring the city’s iconic attractions. From strolling through the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Old Fisherman’s Wharf to sipping coffee by the sea lions, their loved ones enjoyed every moment of this charming coastal destination.
The couple and their wedding party stayed at the luxurious Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay, a short distance from the venue. They got ready in the historic getting-ready suite inside the beautifully restored 1800s barn at Cooper Molera, setting the stage for a day filled with love and laughter.
Their ceremony took place under a tree adorned with flowing drapery and delicate florals, adding a touch of natural beauty to the already stunning venue. With a small guest list of close friends and family, the ceremony was intimate and heartfelt, featuring meaningful prayers and moments that reflected May and Patrick’s deep connection.
May and Patrick’s personalities truly shone during their reception. Patrick surprised everyone during their grand entrance with a hilarious prank: a saxophone performance of “Careless Whisper”—complete with a mullet wig! His saxophone teacher, who was in attendance, was mortified, but the guests couldn’t stop laughing. This playful moment set the tone for the rest of the evening. Every moment was fun and laid-back, even though it was so classy at the same time!
The couple’s sense of humor was a theme throughout the wedding weekend. Rubber chickens made surprise appearances during serious moments, adding a lighthearted twist to their formal, elegant event. It was all May’s idea, I swear 🤣. And as a nod to how they met—playing archery in New York—they set up a toy archery station at the reception, which was a hit with their guests.
May’s mom decorated the reception tables with beautiful Korean gifts, wrapped in colorful silk cloth, for each guest. It was such a lovely touch!
The Barns at Cooper Molera is one of Monterey’s most picturesque venues, blending historic charm with modern simplicity. We took portraits in the lush green gardens, where May absolutely glowed in her stunning gown. Her timeless beauty and joyful spirit made every photo a dream to capture.
Each table was adorned in not only delicate white and baby blue florals, but also grapes and blueberries to add another natural element to the day. The perfectly-placed fruit on the tablescapes reminded me of 17th century still life paintings of luxurious fruit bowls.
Dinner was an Italian feast that left everyone raving, and dessert featured an array of delicious ice cream sandwiches, late night snacks, and crème brûlée. As a photographer with a serious sweet tooth, I was in heaven!
May and Patrick’s wedding was a perfect example of how to create a day that is uniquely you. From the elegant ceremony to the playful touches like the screaming rubber chickens, Korean gifts, and toy archery, every detail reflected their love, laughter, and personalities. It was such a privilege to capture their story and be part of their joyful celebration.
